What Opt-Out Means

There are many ways that your name, e-mail address, preferences, or other personal information may be stored and used without your permission. Even simple activities, such as visiting a web site, clicking on a banner ad, replying to an e-mail, or even just reading an e-mail which contains JavaScript, HTML, or sends and automatic reply, can provide valuable information to a site. In some cases, the sites which store and use the information may provide a way for you to "opt-out", indicating that you do not want them to use the personal information they have obtained.
