What Opt-In Means
"Opt-In" means that your name, e-mail address, or other personal information will be used only with your permission. For example, you should receive e-mail from an opt-in distribution list only if you have signed up for that list. However, when e-mail addresses are not verified, your e-mail address could easily be added by anyone who knows your e-mail address, and spam will often falsely indicate that it is opt-in and that you (or a fake recipient) must have requested it.
